2010 TRAVELERS CHAMPIONSHIP

Chief Anthony J. Salvatore of the Cromwell Police Department announces that due to the 2010 Travelers Championship Golf Tournament, to be held June 21, 2010 through June 27, 2010, at the Tournament Players Club located in Cromwell, motorists are to expect traffic delays when traveling on Route 99 (Main Street) between Court Street and the Rocky Hill town line.

In addition, the traffic is expected to gradually become heavier from Wednesday, June 23rd, through the weekend.

Chief Salvatore states that his Department will have officers directing traffic in a well marked traffic pattern in the area of tournament parking along Route 99, north of Golf Club Road.  Motorists are requested to reduce their speed in this area and to please pay particular attention to the signs along the route, while carefully reading them before entering the traffic pattern.

Local residents who do not plan to attend the tournament are encouraged to use alternate routes (i.e. I-91, Rte. 9, Rte. 3) and should try to plan trips accordingly.

With the tournament occurring in Town, there will be more motor vehicle traffic on local roads than usual.  Please drive carefully and safely.

Child Car Seat Safety Check

A Child Car Seat Safety Check will be held at Pierson Park in Cromwell, May 15, 2010 from 9 am to 12 pm. The Child Car Seat Check is free and open to the public. Inspections will be done by appointment and there are thirty slots available.  For an appointment please contact the Cromwell Police Department Records Office at (860) 635-2256 ext 21.

The event is being sponsored by the Cromwell Police Department and the MOMS® Club of Middletown. In addition, the South Windsor Police Services Child Car Seat Program and the Mid State Traffic Enforcement Team will be providing Safety Specialists.  There will be a bake sale to benefit the South Windsor Police Services Child Car Seat Program.

The Child Car Seat Safety Check is an opportunity for families to have their child’s car seat, infant carrier, or booster seat checked for proper installation and fit. Seven out of every ten car seats are improperly used or installed nationally. Locally in the state of Connecticut, 9 out of every 10 car seats are misused. Motor vehicles crashes are the leading cause of death in children under 12. Correctly used and installed child safety seats lower the risk of injury in during a car accident.

The MOMS Club of Middletown, a non-profit organization, helps mothers and their children, by offering playgroups, field trips, and special events, throughout each month. The MOMS Club of Middletown also participates in charitable projects that benefit the local communities of Middletown and Cromwell.  Membership information will be available at the Child Car Seat Check. For more information on the MOMS Club of Middletown, please contact funmomsclub@hotmail.com.

In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held at the Coles Road Fire Station located at 105 Coles Road, Cromwell, CT.

SNOW OR ICE ON SIDEWALKS

Chief Anthony J. Salvatore, Cromwell Police Department, would like to remind all residents that Town Ordinance requires all owners or occupants of property adjoining any sidewalks shall clear same of snow and/or ice within twenty-four (24) hours after the cessation of a storm.

In addition, please note that residents must clean the entire width of the sidewalks to allow for passage by persons with disabilities.

Clearing snow and/or ice from walks is important and something we cannot avoid living in the Northeast.

It is important for each owner or occupant to take the responsibility and clean their sidewalks, to include the walks leading to their residence, as soon as possible, so emergency personnel, such as police, fire and E.M.S., will have access.

Police will respond to complaints of uncleared sidewalks, at which time violators may receive a $50.00 fine for each day snow or ice is not removed, in addition to a bill for cleaning said walks, if so ordered by the Police Department.

It is also unlawful, by Town Ordinance, for person(s) to plow, throw or put any snow or ice upon any public highway of the Town.

Violations for placing snow or ice onto a public highway in Town is $90.00.

Chief Salvatore asks that all residents comply with these ordinances, in the interest of public safety.

Winter Parking Ban

Chief Anthony J. Salvatore of the Cromwell Police Department announces that to allow for speedy and efficient snow removal during the winter season, the Cromwell Police Department will be strictly enforcing the Town's Parking Ordinances.

Parking is prohibited on any public street or highway for longer than one hour between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.  Parking is also prohibited on any street or highway during an ice, snow, sleet or hail storm that has been in progress for one hour.

Chief Salvatore reminds those who violate Parking Ordinances, "that there is a chance of a $25.00 fine, plus towing and storage charges, if necessary."

Per Cromwell Town Ordinance 221-2 - "The Chief of Police or his duly authorized representative may grant permission for all-night parking for a specific vehicle for a limited period, provided that the owner or operator of such vehicle has a good and compelling reason of a temporary and/or emergency nature to park for a longer period."

The Winter Parking Ban will be in effect from November 15, 2009 to April 15, 2010

Reminder - No Leaves in Roadway

Chief Anthony J. Salvatore of the Cromwell Police Department announces that, because of the fall season and in preparation for leaf pickup, he reminds all property owners, or their landscapers, obstructing or endangering motorists by the placement of leaves within the roadway is a violation.  In addition, this can also cause problems during rainstorms with drainage along the curb line, as well as additional clogging of storm drains with leaves causing flooding.

Chief Salvatore is informing the public that by allowing the placement of leaves in the roadway, they are in violation of Connecticut General Statutes, as well as Town Ordinance, which carries a $50.00 per day fine, as well as other costs.

In addition to the above fine, under Connecticut General Statutes, property owners are advised that, by placing leaves in the roadway, they are liable for any costs or damages which may occur as a result of such action.
